My question is why are those other less quality settings still available on many camcorders or DSLR cameras, if they produce lesser quality video/images? Is it for effect, in that some people who shoot film, at times, desire lesser quality shoots, for effect?

I moved away from Adobe, after they declared they had the right to rummage through my photos, and if I didn't like it, I could switch. So I switched. I'm doing the free trial on FCP, and I'm still on the steep part of the learning curve. The problem was compounded by the fact that I'm a new Mac user, too. I kind of like the FCP libraries. EVERYTHING related to a project is in one place, which makes archiving old projects a breeze. Copied a finished project library from my internal SSD to an external HDD, and everything was there. I like the one-time payment scheme on FCP, over Adobe's subscription model. I haven't tried DaVinci, because the free version doesn't do 10-bit color, and I need that. That and the DaVinci UI seems kind of weird. I think I'm going to like FCP. But I'm NOT going back to Adobe. As Taylor Swift would say, we are never, ever, ever, getting back together.

I was only thinking the other day that UA-cam misses your presence. Nice one on making a feature. I’ve been involved in the making of a couple but not throughout. I’ve seen my director friends struggle for months on end to pull these things off. Starting something is hard, finishing it is another level all together. Massive congratulations on finishing your first feature. Trailer looks sick!

The best beginner setup is literally just the iPhone. You don't need to get expensive lav mics and record to an external hard drive attached to the back of your iPhone to handle prores. DON'T record in prores if you are a beginner, just record! You don't need anything external if you are beginning. You don't even need an external mic if you are a BEGINNER- just use the built in mic. And then get a cheap BOYA lav mic that many people say sounds even better than the RODE. The setup shown in this video is far from a beginner setup. You don't even need the latest iPhone, use an older model. If you are a beginner, just START recording and editing.
